Clara's Caramel Icing

In heavy saucepan, caramelize 1/2 c. sugar.

In another larger saucepan, combine
2 c. sugar
1 T flour
1 small whipping cream
Cover over low heat until it comes to a boil

CAREFULLY combine the carmelized sugar with above mixture--this will bubble up--be careful.

Cook to soft ball stage (use a candy thermometer)
Remove from heat and add 1 t vanilla.
Beat til creamy and spread over pound cake.

**Mom was required to master this before she was allowed to marry him.
